"Costume Designer Phoenix Mellow has designed ornate, fashion-forward costumes drawing praise and recognition for her standout designs for stars such as Katie Perry, movies like ‘Black Panther,’ and most recently for her work with ‘Sylvie’s Love’ and Tessa Thompson in the Sundance Film Festival 2020 love story set in the late 1950s and early 1960s cool jazz era..." - Cindy Maram, Dig In Mag
"Star [Tessa] Thompson, serving up perfectly coiffed chic throughout in a series of immaculately tailored dresses and more casual but precisely coordinated ensembles (kudos to costume designer Phoenix Mellow), plays the titular Sylvie Johnson."
- Leslie Felperin, The Hollywood Reporter on Sylvie's Love
"Sylvie’s Love does not want for eye candy — Phoenix Mellow’s delicious costuming and Mayne Berke Thompson’s vintage production design see to that." -Jessica Kiang , Variety
"It’s an entrancing film [Sylvie's Love], from Fabrice Lecomte’s music, to the way Declan Quinn’s cinematography and Mayne Berke’s production design channels both the period and conventions of melodrama, to the way costume designer (Phoenix Mellow) and hair & makeup team (Carla Farmer, Angie Wells, Linda Villalobos) transform Nnamdi Asomugha and Tessa Thompson into 1960s movie stars." - Chris O'Falt , Indiewire
"Perry’s new music video sees its star decked in period costumes with a contemporary twist (peep the metal-inspired Mozart t-shirt from the first scene)...Perry then adorns fashions that ooze Versailles elegance, complete with towering wigs and pastel patterns."
